Kings and Butterflies
Even since his father died a few years ago and bequeathed The Butterfly Inn to him, Dallas has been competing with fancier and more expensive hotels on the San Leandre boardwalk, one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Even when the inn is at capacity, he’s barely able to pay himself a decent salary. A lot of developers want to buy the inn, but Dallas wants to honor his father’s memory.
He’s trying to think about how to keep things afloat when the most gorgeous man he has ever seen in his life walks into the inn. Despite how attracted he is to him, Dallas finds himself having to turn him away from the inn because he doesn’t have a credit card to check in. The gorgeous stranger offers $10,000 in cash to stay for the week and Dallas, who should know better, takes the money and checks him in under a fake name.
He spends the next few days wondering who his guest is, whether he’s a criminal, until Dallas finds himself rescuing his sketchy guest from a drunken club situation. Soon, he’s learning his guest’s secrets—and they’re much bigger than he expected.
Just not in the way he thought. But the kind of thing surrounding this stranger—Dallas is pretty sure that only exists in fairytales. Should he follow his heart and go into the unknown or stay home and protect his father’s legacy?
To say that things are going well for Max would be an understatement. He is living his dream, touring around the country with his band, playing music to hordes of adoring fans. But his dream turns out to be more difficult and exhausting than he expected. In his daydreams, Max never expected to have to wear eight inch heels for six hours as he performed or how much the exhaustion would add to his relatively well managed back pain. Regardless of the difficulty, Max is grateful.
With everything else going on in his life, he rarely has time to think about how lonely it is to be on the road with a band of amazing musicians whose names he barely knows. He doesn’t think that’s going to change—in truth, he doesn’t care if it doesn’t, he has enough to worry about. After a grueling performance, however, he meets Eli backstage during a meet and greet.
Drawn to him in a way that he can’t explain, Max ends up inviting him back to his hotel. The two of them have a night together that neither one of them is bound to forget any time soon. For the first time in a long time, though, Max is starting to realize that he might want more than his current life provides.
Maybe not all of his dreams have come true yet.
On The Beat
Things are supposed to be going better than they are for Franco Martinez. An outstanding musician, his band is supposed to be taking off as they tour around the country. Unfortunately, that hasn’t worked out—which maybe wouldn’t be too bad, if Franco wasn’t stuck with the person responsible for his band’s downfall from grace and into the Premiere.
Being a cruise entertainer was never part of Franco’s plans, but being a cruise entertainer and having to share a boat with Zach just adds insult to injury. If it were up to Franco, he would never see Zach again, but when he gets violently sick and can’t perform with his band, he has to ask the person he hates the most for help.
Zach, as talented as he is troubled, can barely remember what he did to Franco Martinez. All that he knows is that Franco hates him and for good reason—trying to recover from a heroin addiction has made Zach realize just how much he hurt the people around him and unfortunately, Franco seems to be one of the people affected.
As they get pushed closer and closer together, Franco starts to realize that he’s madly attracted to Zach, regardless of how much he hates him as a person. Zach’s ever-present crush on Franco hasn’t gone anywhere either. Can they get over their animosity?
