A small town boy.
A girl on the run.
And one night of passion that changes everything.

The best way to get over someone is to get under someone else. That’s the saying, right?

A year after his wife left him, Hunter still hasn’t taken that advice to heart… until she walks into the bar. Long, black hair, red, red lips, and curves for days, Hunter can’t take his eyes off her.

Isobel is on the run and the sleepy town of Hawthorne seems like a great place to hide. She can take a timeout to escape all her problems—evil stepmother included—and pretend for a while they’ll never catch up with her. She never counted on the sizzling connection to the sexy as sin man at the bar.

But can a city girl and a country boy ever be anything more than a short-lived fire that burns crazily bright and then flames out fast?

..two troubled souls.

A very adult take on the original tale. Isobel has experienced a series of emotionally charged events in her life. the have wrought a profound change in her psyche. Hunter, also his own emotional scars. When these two troubled souls come together, it will not be an easy road to happiness. A good read, the book has both emotion, and eroticism

This is a variation of Snow White''s story - modern one at that. This didn't disappoint - didn't put it down from beginning till I reached the end. A very emotional read and quite suspenseful at the end. The emotional intimacy of the main characters - Hunter and Isobel - was very well developed in the book. As well as their history or past - was clearly imparted. I loved how the others in their story was well distinguished. The sensuality was just right all throughout. This is my first book of the author, and I would love to read more from her.

Hot And Cold

by S Lange

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This book has a lot chocked inside, it has self-esteem issues, mental health issues, betrayal, loss, love, revenge…Since this storyline is loosely following the “Snow White” fairytale we also have the evil stepmother.

The story starts with Isobel finding out her long distance romance has now sprung a leak. Then she has a run in with her stepmother that starts the old insecurities coming back in full force. Isobel lets out all of her pent up rage and frustration on her stepmother when she pushes Isobel to far. Isobel is now afraid that the consequences may be too much for her to handle and she leaves town quickly.

Isobel had heard of a small town that does rescue work with horses and that’s where she runs into Hunter at the local bar. Hunter has been dealing with the after effects of a marriage gone wrong and has avoided female company for over a year. When he gets a look at Isobel his heart begins to beat again after laying dormant for the past year. They make an awkward first connection, which has some spark, that soon heats up as they get to Hunters’ place.

As fate would have it after their night of passion it turns out that Hunter may be Isobel’s new boss. Hunter feels that Isobel misrepresented herself when she said she was from a small town when she was actually from the big city. One of the biggest problems in his previous marriage was that his wife was from the big city and hated small town life.

With both parties feeling a bit out of kilter with what started as something sexually freeing for both of them has now become wroth with tension and misunderstandings.

After their first night together Hunter gives Isobel the cold treatment. Throughout most of the book they take turns icing each other out, after a bit it got repetitious. It almost felt like they kept having misunderstanding on top of misunderstanding to add drama to the story.

The best parts of the book and some of the saddest parts of the book was when they were actually being veterinarians. The almost slap stick moments when Isobel was flying solo on helping a cow give birth, were funny and endearing. Her genuine love and care for the animals was evident in her manner when dealing with them and her thoughts.

Hunter knew his job and his care and regard for both his patients and their owners was very much in the forefront. His almost constant pissed off attitude and fault finding with Isobel got wearing after a while.

With the exception of their first night together most of the other sexual times felt like the author wanted to throw in a little of this and a little of that to make the sex seem exciting, it just felt forced and not very titillating.

There are so many characters thrown in that sometimes trying to figure out their purpose in the story just kind of left you scratching your head. Through all of this we know that there is going to be a reappearance from her stepmother because it is a “Snow White” story. Didn’t expect it to take the form of an almost tabloid TV talk show, which then morphs into showing up at the bar complete with lights, camera and paparazzi. Then the story takes a serious left turn and follows another fairytale down the rabbit hole “Alice In Wonderland” to include hallucinogenic dreams and utter chaos and confusion. Once we have finally surfaced from that murky pit we now have immediate Epilogue narrated by Liam?!?! What the heck why is he doing the epilogue? Is his story the next one to happen?

There so many other ways the author could have gone with this story, a few more animal episodes. Hunter and Isobel actually working together and becoming this really tight team, anything but the almost constant hot and cold. The seemingly insurmountable distance between Isobel and Hunter made the story boggy and the throw a little of everything in the mix sexcapades dimmed the heat considerably for me. Then the drastic left turn the last quarter of the book just made it a solid three star for me.

A book for grown folk

A fairytale for grown folks... this storyline not only flows from one scene to the next, but to invoke your emotions from the very beginning to the very end. Now that's a good book.
I have to say, that I voluntarily received an advanced copy of this book "Hunter."
And from the very first page was informed that the characters name was different, in the other book. I stopped reading this one and went and read the first one.
If you haven't already read Stacia's previous book stop and read that one first "The Virgin and the Beast " then this book.
This will flow and help it all connect together.
I'm just waiting for the next one to come out...

WOW this is my first time reading Stasia Black and OMG it was awesome
Isobel had left school to be home with her father who was dying from cancer. Right after the funeral she found out that her boyfriend was cheating on her with her best friend. It also doesn't hurt that Isobel has low self esteem and had suffered from an eating disorder. After almost choking her step mother to death Isobel needed to get out of NYC fast. Hunter is sitting at Bubba's bar drowning his sorrows about his wife Janine leaving him a year ago. In walks a gorgeous woman that reminds Hunter that he is still a red blooded man, something he hasn't felt since wife left. After chatting with the woman, Hunter goes outside his comfort zone and invites her back to his home. She accepts. It's been ingrained in Isobel, by her step mother that she is fat. Even when she only weighed 96 pounds Isobel saw herself as fat. Now she's gained 30 pounds and she is mortified to have Hunter look at her. Isabel suffers from body dysmorphic disorder. Hunter has a bad tendency to use his ex wife as a barometer for all of his relationships. Because Janine hated country life and prefers the big city...he assumes Isabel does also. So he turns cold on her. This story is about 2 people that both have so many inner issues and they not only need to work on themselves but need to accept the love of another.

What a whirlwind of emotions!

I couldn;t help but identify with both Hunter and Isobel. The pain they both suffered in the past. Their meeting and first night was heavenly but the misunderstandings that followed made for hurt feelings on their part and a lot of laughs and pouts on my part.

And talk about wanting to choke a woman? Her stepmother is a demon!

A road of laughs, tears, disaster and steamy love scenes before we get to our HEA!

This book is very emotional.. You're going to need some tissue... The book starts off with Isobel father funeral.. And Isobel finding out that her boyfriend been cheating on her with her best friend... If that wasn't bad enough her stepmother from hell has been messing with her diet and meds... Top the with the lost of her father Isobel snap, and her stepmother . fearing she might call the cop Isobel ran.. She ends up in small town Wyoming were she meets Hunter the town vet at a bar. Where Hunter is trying to come to terms with the fact that his wife left him.. The chemistry between Hunter and Isobel was unmistakable.. But off course they each have their insecurities to over come.. Along with outside obstacles .
Before they get to their happily ever after.. This was a very nice read, enjoy it very much .

Love conquers all...

I love to read fairytale retellings and this one did not disappoint. Although this is a standalone book it does have characters that were in a previous book, "The Virgin and the Beast" which I enjoyed.
Hunter and Isobel both have been burned by love in the past so will they be able to trust in love again? Im a hopeless romantic so this book had me up all night unable to put it down until I got to the end!

Stepmother from Hell

This is my voluntary review of an ARC I received. Loved this long intriguing novel about Hunter the veterinarian and Isobel. Isobel had a lot to contend with the stepmother Catrina who was doctoring her medication and goading Isobel to kill herself or think she had gone mad. Isobel runs away to Hawthorne and meets up with Hunter Dawkins and starts as his veterinarian intern. This is my first read of a Stasia Black novel and will be reading more of her books. I highly recommend this as a must read.

I loved this book it’s better than the original Snow White and the Huntsman, more sexier and a very nasty step mother. I loved the characters especially Hunter now who wouldn’t love a man like him. Great book.

I had high hopes

I got this A.R.C. I was super excited to get it. I started reading and it soon became apparent that the h was too inside her own head. She is a described as being plump and is very self conscious about her body something we can all relate to. However, she gets over that enough to go home with a random stranger at a bar a(the hero). So when the h is alone it's all about her hating herself and we all have those days but I don't like to read about it at length it s not attractive. The h was romantic and caring and hot and the sex scenes are hot as well it's the only reason I kept reading. the seconary characters were more interesting to me than this h. Yes the h had a history is mental abuse by her wicked step mom and the h kisses her wake and all that but was not fairy tale to read for me.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is first book I have read from this author and it t won’t be my last. The chemistry between Hunter and Isabel was scorching. They’d both had their troubles but were meant to be together. Great modern take on a classic fairytale. Icouldn’t put it down.
