I put out fires for a living.
I can take some heat.
But Maisie drives me crazy.
She’s smart-mouthed, sarcastic and argumentative.
This town’s too small for both of us.
But she works for me. Unfortunately.
It’s a big no-no for me to f*ck her.
Every time I lay eyes on her, I want to throw her over my shoulder and find the closest place to get my hands all over her curvy body.
Her eyes flash, her sweet a** swings, and her smart mouth makes my c*ck so hard it aches.
There are different kinds of fire, and this one will make her panties melt.
There’s only one problem: this fire might be too hot for both of us.

HOT AND FUNNY

by 3MnMs

Beck and Maisie are freaking hot. I love their story and how awkward Maisie is and how Beck grounds her. I also found this book funny with all of Herman's climbing.

Burning too hot here

by Che

Wowza for me. This is Beck and Maisie's story. Character development as well as relationship development is very good. Everything is well narrated from start to finish. I love the characters revolving around the H and h - they are all caring and protective of their own - except of course Maisie's father. Would love to read more of this series from the author. I am onto reading the first book "Burn for Me". for this particular book is the 2nd in the series.

Burn Was Very Slow

by S Lange

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

The story of Maisie and Beck happens in a fictional town of Willow Brook, Alaska. Maisie is the sole dispatcher for Willow Brook Fire & Rescue and Beck is a leader of one of the rescue teams. The two of them have been striking sparks off of each other for the past two years with their slightly antagonistic relationship. A hot water heater malfunction at her home lands Maisie in compromising a position of being busted in the shower by Beck after his last rescue call.

As Beck gets an eye full of Maisie’s assets his body is letting him know that it would like to do more than look. Beck tries to push her buttons to take things a little further as he can feel her body wanting to agree with his assessment that she needs to lighten up and have some fun.

We get some back-story on Maisie that she was basically the parent in the family with regards to her father as her mom had passed. Being very much into total self-sufficiency Maisie is not taking anything for granted especially her job.

Beck admits that he’s a bit of a player when it comes to the ladies. He figures both he and the lady know it’s a temporary thing and no one gets hurt. However he realizes he feels a bit more for Maisie. He’s working really hard at convincing her he could be more if she lets him.

Things started out hot and steamy in this book. Both of their professionalism comes through loud and clear. There dealings with other people very grown up and insightful. When dealing with each other professionally they are great, their interpersonal dealings with each other very juvenile and annoying after a while. At one point there is a teenage boy teasing a young lady about how silly it is for her to want to be a fire fighter and Beck makes the comment its like his relationship with Maisie and I agreed totally.

They would get together both have a great time then Maisie would run and do the ignoring thing after a while it was pretty much predictable and just killed the heat for me. Plus the constant childish inner monologue from Beck just totally made him seem like a jerk most of the time. I will say he had some sweet moments and some really stand up guy qualities just most of the time it felt like he was doing the pulling the girls braids because he liked her and wouldn’t come out and say so. Maisie wanting to be so self sufficient almost to the point of causing loads of problems for herself just kind of wore you out after a bit. It was like they could adult everywhere else but in their relationship.

No shortage of heat in this love story!

by Carolyne

Like a slow burn, Maisy and Beck’s romance starts slow and easy over a 2 year-period. Thankfully for us, the book starts when things get hot! Besides the fact that there is no shortage of heat in this story as this couple just about lit up my Kindle, it was great to see Maisy soften (but not too much) and see Beck step up for her in more ways than one. J.H. Croix doesn’t disappoint.

Hot, sweet read

Maisie and Beck's story was sweet. Life Maisie has lived, has made her independent. She can't rely on anyone and has to fend for herself. Beck has been a professional flirt but can't get Maisie out of his head. They have very strong chemistry and Maisie is fighting it.

The story was well-written but quiet a few times I found that the descriptions were being repeated and that annoyed me.

All in all, good read. I can't wait for Lucy and Levi's story.

I enjoyed it, the reason I did not give it higher star rating is that even though I enjoy banter after a while I was like enough. Maisey stop with the seesaw. Brent grow up...They were great in their professional roles, but they needed help in the personal department..However, they were hot together..this was second book in the series, so I have to go read that one, but it can be read as standalone..don't wait.

Taking A Chance

Boy when i picked up this book today I did not expect not to be able to put it down until I was done.

You have a dedicated flirt in Beck who has never met a woman he wanted to know long term. Now Maisie has had a very unconventional upbringing with and irresponsible father so she chooses only to rely on herself. When these two meet they bring out the worst in each other.

Base on prickly and flirty feelings these two will keep the reader interested to see who will prevail in their own personal tango.

Love the characters.

5 stars for hot fireman

by KVIDITO

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. I loved this book. It's the first book I have read by this author and won't be the last. Beck is a hotshot Fireman in Willow Brook, Alaska and Maisie is dispatch for the department. It starts out slow but it definitely heats up. They seem to bring out the worst in each other and fight all the time, but are secretly hot for each other. It was a good story line that really drew me in. Even though it is part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone. I would definitely recommend

Heartwarming Sexy Read!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Beautiful! This is a heartwarming sweet sexy romance that teaches us that the it's ok to take help and letting ourselves love can be a promise. Maisie and Beck have a chemistry that won't stop and are sexual escapades that are sure to leave you panting, but is it enough. Croix brings us an amazing story that will draw you in with some fabulous characters that will keep your interest.

This book was a good read. The characters were written well but had a bit of a childish feel about them at times. They had chemistry and it was hot. 'Slow Burn' was well named as this story has a build up to the relationship between the main characters. This is an enjoyable read.

Great Title for Matching Story!

by Sharon in SF

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Slow Burn is an appropriate title for this book featuring Hero, Hot Shot Firefighter Beck, and heroine, Maisie, keep-to-herself Emergency Dispatcher. Maisie, who essentially grew up parenting herself, moved to Alaska two years ago to spend time with her dying grandmother. As the emergency dispatcher, she sees Beck everyday, unless his crew is on rotation fighting a wildfire out of the area. For two years, Beck's flirtatious nature and the fact that he likes to tease her (ala high school crush actions), irritates Maisie, though she secretly finds him attractive. A "revealing" accident is the catalyst to spur Beck to act on his "more than friends" feelings toward Maisie. Because of his flirtatious personality and not wanting to be one of his casual flings, Maisie doesn't believe Beck when he says that he wants to date her. She hesitates further since they also work together.
I enjoyed the cat and mouse game surrounding their relationship. Maisie had solid reasons for wanting to be cautious, and Beck gradually showed her in many situations how he was there to support her.
The supporting cast of friends and colleagues were also great because it was obvious to all of them how these two felt for each other. The sex was hot but the romance in their love story was hotter!
