Amelia Spelled has had a bad week. Her boyfriend dumps her when she inadvertently gives him food poisoning. Her workplace, a telecommunications center, fires all their staff as they are outsourcing offshore, and she is evicted due to smoke damage resulting from her failed attempts at baking. Amelia thinks her luck has changed when she inherits her estranged aunt’s store, two mysterious cats, and beautiful Victorian house.
Yet has Amelia jumped out of the frying pan into the fire? To Amelia's dismay, the store is a cake store, and she discovers that her aunt was a witch. To add to the mix, the house has secrets of its own.
When a man is murdered in the cake store, will Amelia be able to cook up a way to solve the crime? Or will her spells prove as bad as her baking?

This book by Morgana Best is an example of a different type of cozy mystery in a quick and fun reading experience. This one involves just a touch of magic and witchcraft to help the amateur detectives work on solving the crime before they become the next victim. Looking forward to reading the next ones in this series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

A fun cozy read

I really liked Amelia and boy you couldn't help but feel bad for her string of bad luck. Bad baking changes from bad luck to a cake shop, a house that is not a normal house, some interesting people and a murder to solve. This story really keeps you hooked and enjoying every page and can't wait to read more in the series!

A humorous magical story

by SATReader

Morgana Best's Miss Spelled entertains as she delves into the life of Amelia Spelled, an inept cook challenged by a house with a mind of its own, an odd collection of caring townsfolk, and a murder mystery.

The strangeness of her life continues as Amelia discovers that magic is part of her heritage, as well as a cake shop. As she stumbles her way through her new life, uncovering the deviousness of greed, she discovers true culprit in her ex-boyfriend's murder.

I admit to be slightly disappointed in this work, expecting far more from Ms. Best. While the story was cleverly written, I feel that there were places it could have been "more" than it was. But, overall, Miss Spelled was still an entertaining read.

Amelia is having a very bad day, a day for loss and pity when she receives a letter and finds out she has inherited a house, land, and a shop. When she shows up there she realizes that not everything in her life was what she once thought and her life has been completely changed. Thank you for allowing me to read this book and write an unbiased review.

Miss Amelia Spelled is aptly named...

Amelia Spelled is not having the best of times. Her boyfriend has just dumped her after many failed attempts to change her, she's just lost her job due to outsourcing, and her landlord is evicting her due to the outcomes of her ex's attempts to get her to cook for him. Things seem to have hit rock-bottom, until she receives notice that her estranged aunt has left Amelia her house and her business in a small town. Amelia thinks her luck is changing until she finds out just what type of business she's been left - a bakery with a reputation for amazing cupcakes! Not only that, but the first day she reopens the bakery, a customer falls down dead, and everyone thinks she's to blame! Add in a pair of precocious cats, a group of friends who practice witchcraft, and a house with a mind of its own, and you know that this first book is going to open up a whole new world to you. Love Morgana Best, love her writing, and love this story!

Bespelled by Miss Spelled

by Kate V.

What a day! Amelia Spelled has just lost her boyfriend, her job, and her apartment. But as helplessness threatens, she receives an unexpected reprieve in the form of an inheritance from an estranged and strange aunt. She quickly moves to small town Bayberry Creek where her new house and cake shop await… only slightly concerning is the fact Amelia just accidently poisoned her ex-boyfriend with nachos. Oh well. Life is determined to move forward in the shape of a maybe magical house, disastrous baking attempts, and a dead body in her cake shop.

I enjoyed the beginning of Amelia’s story. She is attempting to find her place in a new town, with a new business, and making new friends. The troubles of a dead body and murder to solve only add to the adventure. I can’t wait to read the next book in the serious.
