A quaint hotel in the Lake District. The Cross Hotel is the perfect getaway. Or is it?
Felicity Everdene needs a break from the family business. Driving through the Lake District to the Cross Hotel, past the shining lake and the mountains, everything seems perfect. But Felicity soon discovers all is not well at the Cross Hotel …
Patrick Cross left the village of Emmside years ago never intending to return, but his father has left him the family’s hotel in his will, and now he's forced to come back. With a missing barmaid, a grumpy chef, and the hotel losing money, the arrival of Felicity Everdene from the notorious Everdene family only adds to Patrick’s troubles.
With so much to overcome, can Felicity and Patrick bring happiness to the Cross Hotel … and find happiness for themselves?

Felicity at the Cross Hotel was described as "a feel good, uplifting romance for the summer ", and honestly, that is exactly what it was. I started it one hot afternoon, and fell in love with Felicity and Patrick immediately. Helena Fairfax writes with a unique style; managing to create complex characters and interesting story lines. This book made me lose myself, reading it in one fell swoop; visions of a beautiful English country side and characters come to life.

A Sweet Romance set in the Lake District

by MJM2003

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This story is set in a part of the world very close to me as I spent many childhood holidays there. Fliss is from a family background working in upmarket hotel chains. But she is there simply for a holiday. The hotel she stays in is owned by Jilly whose husband is dead and their son is living in the abroad and isn't really that interested in running the family hotel. It has many issues such as it is losing money being the most important. There is a job opening of a bar maids position and Jilly asks Fliss whether she would fill in for her. Fliss is used to this work and doesn't mind. Patrick and Fliss's romance is fairly predictable but nice. The main story concentrates on how they are going to overcome so many obstacles to get his hotel thriving again as, at first, he's wondering whether Fliss's family are after his hotel. There is much humour in this book which I loved. Seeing characters develop over the course of the story was great - for example the way Patrick was a miserable, grumpy so and so to begin with, he mellows over the pages and you read the witty dialogue between him and Fliss as they fall in love. I will be looking out for more of Helena Fairfax as as I enjoyed this book so much. Recommended!
