The founder of MamaLanguages, she is a former Lecturer for the Department of Cultures and Languages at Birkbeck, University of London. She studied French and Brazilian-Portuguese languages and literature at the undergraduate level and holds a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics.
As a linguist, she has worked in language development and literacy in schools in the UK and Brazil.
Maria has worked for organisations such as Southbank Centre, British Petroleum and The Brazilian Educational and Cultural Centre. She is a member of The British Association for Applied Linguistics and of the International Association of Applied Linguistics. She has an absolute love for languages and is the mother of two lively trilingual boys. She writes very inventive stories for children and also illustrates them, her aim is to translate them in several languages to support bilingual literacy and the love for reading around the world.
