While earning an M.A. in English Literature from Kansas State University, with an emphasis in writing poetry, Jim Hohenbary was captured by the school's gravitational field and has worked there ever since. He currently serves as both the Director of the Office of Nationally Competitive Scholarships and the Associate Director of the University Honors Program at K-State. Before crafting his debut novel, Hohenbary won the Phi Kappa Phi Forum's national poetry contest in fall 2010 for "The Witch" and was recognized as Honorable Mention by New Millennium Writings in 2014 in the Short-Short Fiction category for "The Chimera." He lives in Manhattan, KS with his wife, Laura, and his two children.
